4AIR Announces ForeFlight Integration for Simplified Regulatory Compliance
- New integration between 4AIR and ForeFlight allows easier compliance with new regulatory programs like the non-CO2 MRV and ReFuelEU for aircraft operators
- Integration supports automated monitoring and reporting, reducing the compliance burden
- Integration free to any existing customer of ForeFlight
CLEVELAND, Feb. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ --4AIR, the global leader in business aviation sustainability, today announced that it has launched an integration connection with the flight planning tool ForeFlight for users to be able to automate reporting requirements for ReFuelEU.
The ReFuelEU regulatory program is one component of the Fit for 55 package, a set of European Union proposals that aim to achieve a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030. Beginning January 1, 2025, aircraft operators with more than 500 flights from major EU airports are subject to an anti-tankering provision under the ReFuelEU SAF mandate. This mandate requires fuel suppliers to supply at least 2% SAF to major EU airports next year, but also sets fines for aircraft operators who tanker fuel into those airports in an effort to avoid uplifting SAF.
The regulation requires operators to monitor and report their expected fuel needs for flights departing from EU-based airports against the fuel they actually uplifted. If operators do not meet a set threshold at each airport, they are subject to fines set at twice the price of fuel. Exemptions can be requested but must be well documented.
"Aviation has a complex and rapidly changing regulatory environment, which creates a challenge for aircraft operators as they look to ensure their operations are abiding by national and international regulations," said 4AIR President Kennedy Ricci. "By automating the collection of flight planning data, we are not only simplifying the reporting process but also empowering operators to focus on their core operations. This new offering underscores 4AIR's commitment to making sustainability solutions accessible for the entire aviation industry."
Through 4AIR, ForeFlight customers can automatically collect the flight planning data required for annual reporting as well as claim exemptions that can reduce their exposure to costly penalties. This integration significantly reduces the manual workload required by operators.
The same integration can be used to implement preflight forecasting of contrail emissions to improve operators' understanding of their non-CO2 impact, which is another provision as part of the expanded non-CO2 monitoring and reporting requirement under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) that went into effect on January 1, 2025.
The integration is available to any existing ForeFlight customer and included at no extra cost under 4AIR's monitoring and reporting program.
"Sustainability and regulation continue to be a major challenge for our customers," said ForeFlight CEO Tim Schuetze. "The ForeFlight ecosystem streamlines the information flow, allowing our customers to spend less time gathering data and more time tackling other complex tasks."
