Iron Workers Union Condemns Illegal Firing of NLRB Chair

WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ --The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers strongly condemns the Trump administration's illegal firing of NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) Chair Gwynne Wilcox. This action violates the National Labor Relations Act, which requires a hearing for removal due to neglect of duty or misconduct. Chair Wilcox was not given a hearing, and there is no reason to question her ability to perform her duties.
"The removal of Chair Wilcox threatens NLRB's independence and endangers working people's rights," said Eric Dean, General President of the Iron Workers Union."We stand in solidarity with Chair Wilcox and call for her immediate reinstatement to safeguard workers' rights."
This inappropriate removal has rendered the 5-member board inoperable, shutting down its decision-making ability and jeopardizing the protection of workers. The Iron Workers Union urges the administration to respect the integrity of the NLRB and ensure that it can continue its vital work in protecting the rights of workers across the nation.
The Iron Workers Union (IW) represents 135,000 ironworkers in North America who work in construction on bridges; structural steel; ornamental, architectural, clean energy, and miscellaneous metals; rebar; and in fabrication shops.
