MAHONEY ENVIRONMENTAL WORKERS WIN STRIKE

Dozens of Teamsters Drivers Secure Lucrative Contract After Months on Picket Line
JOLIET, Ill., March 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- After being forced to strike for nearly three months, a group of more than 50 drivers and helpers at Mahoney Environmental represented by Teamsters Local 710 has ratified a strong Teamsters contract. Mahoney Environmental provides solid waste services throughout the Chicagoland area.
In their new three-year contract, workers have earned big raises, secured more paid time off and sick leave, and added robust job protections. They have also gained access to a strong and affordable Teamsters health care plan, which will save many of them hundreds of dollars a month.
"This was an uphill battle with an employer who was not used to the strength and solidarity that comes with a union contract and workers willing to fight for it," said Mike Cales, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 710. "These workers stood shoulder to shoulder for nearly 11 long weeks through the winter without wavering. Their resilience on the picket line will set the tone as they finally return to work under the protections of a Teamsters contract."
Workers were pushed to the picket line after Mahoney Environmental committed an unfair labor practice. The strike dragged on for months as management dragged their feet in attempt to avoid giving workers the fair treatment they deserve.
"I am so proud of these workers for sticking it out through this long, hard fight," said Chuck Stiles, Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division. "This victory would not have been possible without the support of the International Union, and the General Secretary-Treasurer's office in particular."
Teamsters Local 710 represents thousands of workers from a range of industries throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. For more information, go toTeamsters710.com.
