Survey Reveals Perspectives on Maternal and Infant Immunizations; Gaps in Education and Information

As respiratory season winds down, survey highlights need for continued education
WASHINGTON, March 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- A new survey from the National Coalition for Infant Health reveals levels of awareness about immunizations for pregnant women and newborns, including vaccines and long-acting preventive monoclonal antibodies, and the key sources of information women look to when making decisions about immunizations for themselves and their babies.
Immunizations are safe and effective, playing a crucial role in prenatal and infant health. However, misinformation and hesitancy can prevent these vulnerable populations from receiving the immunizations they need.
The survey report, "Understanding Perspectives on Maternal and Infant Immunizations" summarizes a survey of 300 pregnant women and mothers with children under age two and highlights:
- Attitudes about immunization
- Awareness about methods of maternal and infant immunization
- Sources of information and education in making decisions about immunization
Key Data Points
- 49% of mothers surveyed received all recommended maternal vaccines
- 65% of their children received all recommended vaccines
- 49% of mothers made the decision about vaccinating their child before getting pregnant
- Pediatricians or family physicians were trusted most for education and information about immunization
