Tony Buzbee Told Jane Doe to Make False Claims Against Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter According To New Evidence Introduced in California Court Case
New Declaration Seeks Depositions of Buzbee and Doe
NEW YORK, March 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter's legal team submitted new evidence in the Superior Court of the State of California to prove that lawyer Tony Buzbee told Jane Doe to lie and make false rape allegations against Mr. Carter.
The new evidence includes sworn declarations from the two investigators - Charlotte Henderson and James R. Butler - that personally met with Doe in Alabama on February 21, 2025 and recounted the sequence of events that she voluntarily shared with them.
The declarations outline that Doe admitted to the following:
- Carter never sexually assaulted Doe.
- Doe met Buzbee for the first time on December 9, 2024 in Houston, Texas in connection with an interview that he had arranged for her to do with NBC News.
- During that meeting, Buzbee suggested that Doe claim that Carter had raped her and pushed her to make that claim.
- Lawyers at Buzbee's firm told Doe that, if she pursued Carter, she would receive a cash payout from him.
- Right before Buzbee dismissed Doe's lawsuit against Carter in Feb. 2025, Buzbee told Doe that she should drop the case because Carter had threatened to kill her.
The evidence and the timeline reaffirm the fact that Buzbee illegally sent a demand letter to Mr. Carter on Nov. 5, 2024, without Doe's knowledge or consent and five weeks before formally meeting with Doe for the first time on Dec. 9, 2024.
The filing goes on to explain that Buzbee's demand letter was a "naked, lone-wolf attempt to extract money from Mr. Carter by means of instilling fear in Mr. Carter that Mr. Buzbee would publicly accuse him of criminal wrongdoing if he did not pay Mr. Buzbee."
Furthermore, the declarations illustrate that Buzbee intentionally chose to disregard readily-available information about Doe, such as her personality disorders, her history of filing false accusations, her criminal record and more, when making his accusations against Carter in court and in the media.
Given Buzbee's malicious misconduct and defamatory statements, Carter's team has filed a complaint against Buzbee with the bar.
